# Recurring tasks and invoices

> Repeat tasks and invoices on a schedule with the same recurrence rule.

Recurring tasks and recurring invoices share one recurrence rule. Use them for work you repeat for clients, such as monthly reporting, and for fixed invoices you would otherwise recreate by hand.

## Recurrence rule

The rule reads "Every \[n] day(s) / week(s) / month(s) / year(s)", with n from 1 to 999.

* **Weekly** lets you pick weekdays (Su to Sa). If you pick none, Pike uses the start date's weekday.
* **Monthly** and **yearly** use the start date's day.

Choose when it ends: **Never**, **After \[n] occurrences**, or **On date**.

## Recurring tasks

In Create task, click **Set recurrence**. The "Recurring task" popover has Remove recurrence, Cancel, and Save. The series starts today. Start and due dates repeat at the same offset from each occurrence. A recurring task needs a start date, a due date, or both, and a team.

Pike creates tasks one at a time as each occurrence comes due. To create the whole series up front, click **Create N now**. This needs an end and allows at most 500 tasks. Such a series is fixed and shows "All tasks already created".

Cards, rows, the timeline, and the task page show an occurrence badge: "3/12", or "#3" for open-ended series.

### Edit an occurrence

Editing an occurrence asks you to choose **This task only** or **This and all future tasks**. This applies to inline due date edits and to the description. Future tasks receive only the fields you changed, and dates shift by the same number of days.

## Recurring invoices

Start a schedule in any of these ways:

* On a project, go to **Finance** → **Invoices** → **Schedule invoices**.
* On a draft invoice, open the actions menu and click **Make recurring**.
* Go to **Settings** → **Recurring** → **Add recurring invoice**.

The "Create recurring invoice schedule" modal asks for a Start date (default: the first of next month), the recurrence rule, and an **Auto-send** switch. After you schedule, Pike creates the first invoice as a draft and opens it.

Every generated invoice is a draft. The issue date is the scheduled date plus the issue offset. The due date is the issue date plus the payment terms. Line items copy from the template.

With **Auto-send** on, Pike creates each draft on schedule. With it off, open the next one with **Open next invoice**. You still review and issue each invoice yourself.

### Edit a series

A recurring draft shows "This invoice belongs to a recurring series. Changes here only apply to this invoice." To change future invoices, click **Edit template**. The "Editing future invoices" dialog has Payment terms (days), Issue date (days after scheduled date), Next issue date, and Next due date. Changing offsets moves upcoming unsent drafts by the same number of days.

## Manage all series

Admins and managers can open **Settings** → **Recurring**. Tabs: Active, Expired, and Paused. The page has a Recurring tasks section and a Recurring invoices section (invoices need finance access).

Row actions:

* **Pause** and **Resume**
* **Stop repeating**: existing tasks or invoices stay
* Delete
* **Edit future invoices**

Retainer projects have their own per-period task templates. See [Retainers](https://usepike.com/docs/project/retainers.md).
