Resource allocations plan how much time a member or open position should spend on a task across a date range. You can create and edit them from three places, all using the same allocation dialog.

Resources

Overview of project team, timeline, and links to all resource allocation docs.

Allocate by share of capacity

Use this when you want to book a member as a percentage of their contracted time (for example 50% of capacity for two weeks).
  1. Open the allocation dialog from a task Allocations row, MembersResource allocation, or a project Resources timeline block.
  2. Pick the member and set the allocation period.
  3. Select the % toggle above the amount field.
  4. Enter the share of capacity. Pike converts to total hours using the member’s employment contract for those dates.
  5. Review the summary line at the bottom of the dialog (hours per day, per week, and share of capacity). Save.
If the member has no contracted capacity in that period, Pike shows a callout and keeps % disabled until capacity exists. Use h (total hours) or per-weekday mode instead. Open positions cannot use % mode. Plan placeholder roles with total hours or per-weekday entry only.

Placeholder positions: assign, allocate, convert

Use a position when you know the role (for example “Senior consultant”) but not yet the person.

1. Define the position

Under MembersSettingsMember positions, create the role and its default hourly rate.

2. Assign the position on the task

On the task page or sidebar, open Assigned to and pick the position from the same picker as members. The position appears on the task with a position icon. You can also add positions when building the project team on the Resources tab.

3. Allocate hours to the placeholder

Expand Allocations on the task (or open the position row on MembersResource allocationTimeline). Click + on the position row and enter dates and hours. Use h or the calendar (per-weekday) toggle. % is not available for positions.

4. Convert to a member when someone is hired

When you are ready to staff the role, click Assign on the position row in Allocations (or use the assignment picker). Choose the member.
  • With no allocations yet, Pike replaces the position assignee immediately.
  • With existing allocation blocks, Pike asks you to confirm; the planned hours move to the member.
The same conversion flow works from project member pickers when a position was added at project level.

Task page and sidebar

Open a task from a board, list, timeline, or sidebar. On the full task page or in the task sidebar, expand Allocations below the description. The section lists each assignee (member or position) with allocation blocks, total hours, and date ranges. Use + on a row to add a block, or Allocate assignee to pick someone new. Pike adds them to the task when needed. Allocations appear only when the task belongs to a project.

Project resources

Go to the project Resources tab to add members and positions, then create allocations on the timeline heatmap. The view reflects each person’s load across the whole workspace, not just this project. Expanded member rows show assigned tasks; drag allocation bars to adjust dates. Position rows appear on the workspace timeline the same way.

Workspace resource allocation

Open MembersResource allocation for workspace-wide planning.
  • Chart: capacity heatmap and summary charts; use the gear menu to switch weeks vs months, show remaining capacity, and display hours or percentages. Heatmap cells stack confirmed (solid) and proposed (hatch) hours unless you filter to one side.
  • Timeline: member and position rows with draggable blocks; click a block to edit. The utilization row under each member uses the same stacked fill.
The same filters apply in both views, and Pike remembers your last selected view.
